Some of you may remember the old Frank Sinatra song about an ant and a rubber tree plant. It went, “Just what makes that little old ant, think he’ll move that rubber tree plant? Anyone knows an ant can’t move a rubber tree plant!”
That may be, but the ant can teach you a lot about your home based small business. Jim Rohn calls this the philosophy of the ant.
He’s got an analogy of how at home based business professionals can learn from the ant. Here goes:
1. Don’t ever quit! If you’ve ever watched an ant on its way somewhere, you may have noticed the ant is not to be deterred. If you put an obstacle in its path, it will go under it, over it, or around it. But it will not get off track. It will not quit trying to get where it is going.
As a top home based business entrepreneur, you can learn the lesson of perseverance from that persistent ant.
2. Ants plan for winter. It doesn’t matter what season it is – spring, summer or fall — the ants are always planning for winter. They are always gathering supplies for the long haul. They are not so naïve as to think winter isn’t going to come this year. Winter comes EVERY year. Plan for it.
Some people think we are in a winter economy — and for some, we are. Those work from home company owners who will make it through these tough times and come out winners are those who have planned for “winter”.
3. In winter, ants plan for summer. It doesn’t matter how long the “winter” they are in, ants always plan for the next season. During winter they are planning for summer. They are tending their nests, sharpening their mandables, and generally getting for an easier go of it in the summer. If you see a warm day in spring – bam! The ants are out and ready to go!
Top home business professionals spend their “winters” planning new strategies, learning new concepts and ideas — keeping their mind sharp for the time “winter” ends. Don’t waste your “winters”, use them to learn and retool.
4. Ants do all they can do– and it is a lot! Have you ever seen an ant carry a load that weighs way more than he does? They are amazing creatures whom will work hard, lift loads, and carry them for miles. They do all they possibly can do in order to succeed.
As a home based small business CEO, you want to do all that you can do. Do it for your customers, do it for your family, do it for yourself. At the end of each day, say to yourself, “I did all I could do today.”
The end of Frank Sinatra’s song is “oops — there goes another rubber tree plant!” Apply these thoughts while you’re attempting to earn extra money from home and your income will “skyrocket”!
So take the lessons from the ants: don’t quit, plan for winter, plan for winter to end, do all you can do. If you can learn these lessons, you, too, will be able to move mountains with your at home based business — or at least the equivalent of a rubber tree plant!
