Each half is placed in the bench vise to prepare for gluing the two halves together. Only one end is held tight, while the other end sits freely on a support. This keeps out any torsion in the wood that would disturb a perfectly flat edge. Jointing of the edge is done with my Stanley No. 7 jointing plane.
