6 Common Garage Door Repair Problems {awesome|amazing|Great|Special}

Garage door repair is something all homeowners have to deal with at some point in time. Understanding the common problems you may face can make it easier to explain the issue to the technician when he or she arrives. It can also help you understand what the service technician is doing to fix the problem.

1. You Push the Button, but It Does not Close

Modern garage door openers have built-in sensors that feel the resistance on the hatch. If there is a broken spring or hinge, then mechanics will not try to pull the chain. In some instances, the opener is the problem. Only a qualified technician can diagnose the issue.

2. You Can Hear the Opener Running, but Nothing Happens

Openers wear out over time, and the gears are usually the first thing to go. If these gears are stripped, they cannot move the chain, which raises and lowers the hatch. In some cases, you can replace the gears. In others, you have no choice but to replace the entire system.

3. You Have a Kick Out Door and Want It Repaired

You may find some technicians who are willing to fix your one-piece door, better known as a kick out. However, as these are outdated systems, they are unsafe. While yours may seem to be in decent working condition, you should have it replaced with a newer, safer model.

4. The Hatch Opens Stiffly and Makes Noise

Noisy garage doors are a common problem. Your garage door repair technician will first replace the rollers in order to solve the problem. Most companies use plastic rollers that wear out. When having them replaced, you should ask for low-resistance rollers. This model works smoother and is lower maintenance than traditional options. They are worth the additional cost.

5. You Have an Old Opener and Want It Replaced

If your opener is not working properly, you may wonder if it has to be replaced. Your garage door repair technician will be able to look at your equipment and make a determination about whether they have the parts needed to fix the problem without replacing the entire unit. However, in the interest of safety, if your old system does not have a safety beam, you need to exchange it for a newer system.

6. The Rollers Are Out of the Track and It’s Pulling the Door

This is actually a very common garage door repair issue. There are several different reasons why this could happen. Your rollers could be so worn out that they work their way out of the track. Sometimes the track itself has been bent or is obstructed by something within the room. Other times, the large springs at the top are broken and cause the panels to pull off track.

One of the most overlooked causes is when you’ve accidentally hit a panel with your vehicle. The damage may look insignificant. However, if left unrepaired, over time it will pull the panel off track. Thankfully, the solution is relatively easy to fix, and it can be repaired.

Goodbye Master Bedroom – Hello Master Suite {awesome|amazing|Great|Special}

Gone are the days of the simple master bedroom, with a small closet and perhaps a utilitarian ensuite. Enter the days of the master suite – a sanctuary and oasis – a refreshing place where you can relax at the end of a hard day. According to recent reports, the master suite should be second only to the kitchen in terms of luxury. Almost every new build today includes a master suite, so when considering your renovation, this should be the standard to aspire to in order to maximize your resale value.

What is a master suite?

For homes built in the 1970s or before, the master bedroom was more of an afterthought. After all, it’s just for sleeping in, right? No more. Today, master suites can include everything you might find in a typical living room – and more. A fireplace? Check. Relaxing lounge area? Check. Television? Check. And by its very definition, a master suite requires both a walk-in closet and an ensuite – the more decadent the better.

So what type of master closet are buyers expecting these days?

For nearly every home today, buyers are expecting a walk-in closet in the master bedroom. The average size of a master closet is around 50 square feet, but depending on your home’s price point, your master closet could range from 20 to more than 80 square feet.

For homes at a lower price point (this is a relative price point depending on your location), your master closet should be large enough to accommodate at least one row of shelves and hangers. Although wire shelving is functional, it is always a good idea to upgrade to solid shelving.

At a middle price point, you should consider a closet that is large enough for two people to enter. The closet should be made of solid surface materials such as wood or melamine, and incorporate enough shelving and hangers to accommodate his and hers sections. At this price point, you should consider some extras that will add a special touch. This could include drawers of different sizes, shoe racks, tie racks and more. Also keep in mind that buyers are looking for that oasis and luxury feel. There are many ways to convey this feeling, including using trendy wood grains and high end pulls and accessories.

At a higher price point, the sky is the limit when it comes to master closets. Consider a room that is large enough to accommodate a centre dressing table and full length mirror. Luxurious dark wood grains, furniture style cabinetry and granite tops are very popular and will add a high end feel. Also consider adding some unique accessories and decorative items, such as lamps. Buyers will remember these special touches.

My bedroom is too small to accommodate a master suite:

If you are lucky enough to have a large master bedroom, a good designer can provide you with strategies to incorporate an ensuite and walk-in closet. Don’t worry if you can’t visualize your new space – that’s what closet organizers and designers are for. However, you may be thinking that your master bedroom is too small to create the space needed for an ensuite, let alone a walk-in closet. Don’t worry, you may still have options. Do you have a guest room or a den adjacent to your master bedroom? If so, likely your existing closets are built back to back. This makes it relatively easy to convert and gives the opportunity to sacrifice some or all of the bedroom space to create your new master suite.

So no matter what your price point, you should consider including a master closet upgrade into your overall renovation plans. It’s not only what buyers are expecting, but it will be an addition that will make you more organized and relaxed right now. And that’s a great reason too.

Choosing The Right Garage Door Company {awesome|amazing|Great|Special}

Garage doors are one of the most important yet most underrated parts of one’s house. You park your vehicles in the garage and enter into your homes through these doors. Therefore, you need to ensure that they are safely installed. You cannot afford to be complacent at the time of garage door installation in your home because a slight mistake here can put the safety of your house at great risk. So, how do you ensure that your garage doors are safe? You should refrain from doing this job yourself, especially if you don’t have any experience in this field. Always take the services of a professional garage door service company to do the job for you. Here is a list of important points that you need to keep in mind when you choose your service provider.

1. Know your requirements

When it comes to choosing garage doors for your residential or commercial establishment, you should be clear on your requirements, if you have to choose the right service provider. Do you want manual or automatic doors? What are the material and budget that you have in mind? Do you want some security systems installed on your doors as well? Make a note of all these points before you choose your garage door installation company. This will help you choose an expert who is well versed in the specifications that you want.

2. Get few quotes

You need to look around if you want good deals on installing and repairing garage doors. When your doors are damaged, and you need to repair them, you should be very careful. Yes, DIY is a great idea, but you should know when and where to implement this. Never indulge in repairing your doors yourself as you can cause potential damages this way, leading to huge costs later on. Get quotes from at least five garage door repair companies in your locality and compare the quotes against the services offered. You should always have the big picture in mind while choosing a company and not decide hastily based on the cost factor only. Choose a company that provides you great services at reasonable cost, thereby ensuring that you get good returns on your investment.

3. Flexibility

One of the important points that you keep in mind while choosing an overhead door service company is the flexibility of operations. When you are faced with a critical situation, where your door gets jammed in the middle of the night, you should know whom to call. Your service provider should be available 24/7 on all days of the week to help you in unforeseen circumstances. Therefore, choose a service provider that you can trust during emergencies. Knowing that you have professional support all times during the day gives you immense mental relief to handle misfortunes in a better frame of mind. Ensure that your company has its branch quite near to your place so that you can get help quickly, when it matters the most. You don’t want to be waiting endlessly for help to arrive to get your doors sorted, do you?
