My son loves trains.
In june of 2013, we visited the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. While my son was playing on a wooden train layout, I noticed a toy replica of the PRR GG1 locomotive in the black/silver congressional paint scheme. The GG1 was my favorite locomotive as a kid, so I was excited to see if they had this toy in the gift shop to buy for my son’s trains at home.
Alas, they did not have it, and an internet search when I returned home could not turn up any other wooden GG1 models either.
What I did find was several people who have made their own wooden trains. Garnering tips and ideas from these individuals, I decided to build my own GG1s for my son.
