Scene from the Westonbirt Treetop Walkway, of what may be part of:
"This six day course allows participants to learn all the skills required to make a graceful and strong windsor chair using hand tools and green woodworking techniques. The chairs we make revive some of the oldest traditions of English Chair making, often called chair bodging.
‘Green’ unseasoned wood from a local coppiced woodland is cleft from the log and turned on a wooden pole lathe to make legs and other spindles. After turning the wood is carefully seasoned in a simple kiln fired with offcuts and shavings before being used to create a chair.
Hoops, Bows and Combs are also cleft from the log, planed flat and steam bent into shape.
A deep saddle is carved into the seat of each chair using an Adze and Travisher before the mortices are drilled and the tenons turned down to exactly the right size to make a tough and elegant chair that will last for generations.
£385
Including a simple lunch and refreshments"
