College Scholarship Search for the Frustrated Student

It may seem like the fall of a student’s junior year it too soon to search for scholarships but it is not. In fact, I often tell parents to start searching for scholarship the moment that your student enters high school. It is an unusual time to talk about money for college. Most parents and students are thinking that there are four years until graduation. While life is going on college acceptances are just over the horizon. It is true that the early bird gets the scholarship. The key to having a scholarship strategy that works is staring early. There are some parents who have a formula for success. They have a binder where they are already collecting scholarship information. They attend every scholarship and grant training session that they can. Each parent and student should consider finding scholarships a team effort. Start by meeting with someone at your local library. There are a lot of college scholarship resources in the library and there is always someone who is willing to help.

Did you know that there are billions of dollars in scholarships that go unused every year? Some students say it is too hard to apply for scholarships. That is why I tell all students to get started on their scholarship search early. Starting early is the best way to prevent each student and parent from getting overwhelmed. You should have different types of scholarships in each section of your scholarship binder. You can also have your own library of scholarship books and articles that you are picking and reviewing. There are thousands of scholarships on Google. You can search by college major and interests. Ask your student to talk to their high school counselor about scholarships that are available. The school counselor should have information that they are receiving throughout the year. Let them know that you are interested in receiving information and that you will apply

There are a lot of scholarships that are based on a student’s performance in high school. Each student should work to obtain the highest grades possible. Get a tutor right away or make arrangements for the teacher to meet with your student. The critical issue for each parent is deciding how to use each year as leverage against the rising cost of college. Look for small and large opportunities to find scholarships in newspapers and in magazines. Call local college’s financial aid office to find out more about their scholarships and deadlines. Call your bank or credit union to see how you can start saving and if they have scholarships.

If you are the parent of a 11th grade student it’s time to get ready for senior year by asking your student to obtain scholarship recommendation letters from their teachers. Create a calendar with scholarship deadlines and ensure that your applications are submitted on time. Don’t allow yourself to get behind. It’s easy to miss out on a scholarship because your application was not submitted on time. Use the summer to get ahead of the game. Ask your son/daughter to write answers to several scholarship questions. Some of the questions to expect: How will you use our scholarship to complete your undergraduate degree? Why do you deserve this scholarship? How will you make a difference in the world after receiving your degree? Remember grammar and spelling count, if a student wants to have their scholarship application considered.

Investing in your son/daughter’s education is one of the best decisions a parent and student can make. Start your scholarship search early so that your student has the flexibility to pay for the college of their choice. Position yourself to reap the financial rewards of saving pursuing scholarships. You will not regret your investment of time and you can have money to pay for tuition, room and board and other expenses.

Small Talk: Secrets of the Coversationally Comfortable

Does making “small talk” cause a “big fear” in you? Do you wish you could melt into the floor when you have to enter a room full of strangers?

There are several techniques you can use to be more comfortable. Find someone, preferably someone who is alone, and look at him or her. If the other person looks back, smile. If the other person smiles slightly, walk over.

Realize that you have something in common with everyone else in that room: you are all in the same place. Therefore, make a comment and then ask a question about the place. (You can also talk about the weather, the event, or something else you have in common, such as belonging to the same organization.)

Examples might be, “It is sure cold outside! How far did you have to go to get here??” or “This is a fabulous facility! What’s in the rest of it?”

Before you walk into the room, figure out 5 open-ended questions you can ask, to encourage the other person to talk. Base them on what you and s/he may have in common, or how s/he got to this point in life. For example, “How do you know [the host]?” Another question might be, “Based on your shirt emblem, we both work for the same employer! What do you do for the XYZ Company?” One or more questions can be based on local or corporate news, so stay up to date on current events. After 5 questions, if the conversation is still awkward, it’s time to excuse yourself and move to someone else.

Excuse yourself by giving a valid reason to move on, such as “I’ve enjoyed talking to you, but I need to meet some new people (or visit a vendor, get something to eat, etc). Have a great evening!” Smile and move away to do whatever you said in your reason.

If you are travelling on a airplane or ship, the rules need to be modified. Remember you have the experience of being on the same conveyance in common. Comment/question pairs such as “Wow – look at that sunset! What are sunsets like where you come from?” would be appropriate. You cannot move away from the other person, so watch his body language carefully for signs that he wants to end the conversation. One such sign might be lack of eye contact. If you want to end it, use a reason such as “It’s nice talking to you, but I really need to finish my work.” Then look at the book or papers.

There are more such rules in networking, especially in business networking, but the ones above are basic in the American culture.

These rules can be learned through books, seminars, and coaching.

How a Hotel Sales Manager Does a Proper Site Inspection

One of the goals of a Hotel Sales Manager is to get clients to come for Site Inspections and tour the hotel with you. Once you get the commitment, get ready to do some work. When I get a commitment to come for a tour – with a date and time, the first thing I do is make a list of questions and decide on what I want to get out of the appointment.

From there I Google their organization and surf through their pages to get an idea who they are. This knowledge is also good to get for when they do come so you have something to talk about that is in their interest. What are they coming for? Some will come to tour before they sign a booking agreement. Others for future business.

When I get an inquiry, lets just say for a wedding block, I always invite them out and I make time for them. Most hotel sales people won’t just ask them to come and meet with them. They would rather quote a rate, hang up, then shoot out an email. This is not “WOWING” the caller.

When you are sincere and welcome them to your “home” you will have a much better chance to book them. Always invite them to take a site inspection of your hotel. Not to mention that your General Manager will keep seeing you on tours. This looks good for you.

From there I route a Site Inspection Form noting their information and how much I feel the client is worth. The day before I always call to confirm the appointment. I do not email them, I call. This shows that yes, I do have time for you. I think the clients like it better.

On inspection day, I will then choose the rooms that I want to show. To be sure I don’t have any surprises, I walk the route that I am going to take with them to pick up any trash or to get something done before they arrive. And I take the time to inspect my rooms. If I don’t like them, I pick more and keep checking until I find what I am looking for.

On a good day it may only take me 15 minutes to find a good room, and I always find something that I don’t like that must be taken care of. On a bad day I have taken over an hour to find the perfect room and the perfect walk through path. Based on occupancy the night before, I don’t always get the best pickings of the rooms.

I recommend getting show rooms if possible. A show room should look perfect. As perfect as the room looked when it first opened. It should smell good too. I must say that if I’m not happy with the show rooms that my Management Team picks out, I always bring it up at the next Staff Meeting.

We put the show rooms in an out of order status but we sell them if we have to. We try to keep our show rooms out of order but with the past hurricanes and bad weather, we are running pretty good on occupancy so they have to use them. We are an Airport Property with many “distressed passengers” and airline crews.

If you do have show rooms, don’t add a bunch of extra items, flowers etc., that are not in all of the guestrooms. Show them a clean, clean smelling and fresh room. Don’t fudge too much. During the site inspection, I have a list ready for the client with my questions and I tell the client that I have questions for them. Then I ask approval to take notes.

Once they leave, I make it a priority to get the proposal or contract done to get it to them as fast as possible. Clients are impressed when they get their paperwork shortly after they left the property. It shows that YOU the Hotel Sales Manager is interested in a partnership and that you will be committed to them and hopefully them to you.

You want to build a relationship with other members. In time you may meet suitable JV partners to share ventures with, or exchange lists and generally help each other, so be patient.

Your aim is to become an expert or authority in your field and become known as such on the forums. You only need to know more than the people asking the questions! If you don’t know the answer, do a Google search and then reply with the answer in your own words, you can link to the article you have found if the forum permits. Discover the Top 7 Lead Generation Methods for Your Business (And Understand Them)

Just like the classic real estate industry question: “What are the TOP 3 most important features of any property?” (location, location, location) – the single most important fuel you’ll ever create, buy or wish you had for your business is leads, leads, leads! Doesn’t it make sense to know and understand the top 7 ways to generate leads?

Production Method # 1:

Direct Visual Impact. Impact? Really? Really! Unfortunately, when it comes to direct lead generation like it has been done for decades, most people get it wrong. It doesn’t matter if it is a sign on the side of your vehicle, building or bandit signs, you must be direct, powerful and short with your message. Your colors must be bright and high contrast. Yellow and black signs work best, period. The sign area must be maximized so that letters are as big as possible. Become a sign sage – evaluate readability, placement and “attention factor” of every sign you see. Emulate the best of what you see.

Production Method # 2:

It is very important that you become hyper-aware of the power of coupons. You can easily make a business card that is also a coupon. When you do this, you are adding huge power to every card you give out. Can you put flyers on car windows? If you put a flyer on my windshield, it makes me want to meet you to give you a piece of my mind. When you put a valuable coupon the size of a business card just above my door handle in the window rubber, I will put it in my wallet – BIG difference!

Production Method # 3:

The U.S. Post Office (USPS) is now offering delivery of an 8″ x 11″ flyer for 16 cents per mail box. This is an amazing deal. It gets better. You can sell advertising on a flyer to other businesses that do not compete with you and cover your cost. Please understand, you can get 5,000 double sided color flyers that are plastic coated for about $400. You can see, with both sides available for ads (coupons) you’ll have plenty of space to sell and at the same time, your ad (coupon) appears on a portion of the same flyer. This is endless free advertising in exchange for a little work. You could even make money while getting your ad for free!

Production Method # 4:

We all hate email SPAM, don’t we? However, you may not realize that you have probably responded to a SPAM email at some time. From that email, you may have built trust in the person who sent you the original SPAM. SPAM is legal if you follow some simple rules – Google it. Major corporations use legal email SPAM. Most people don’t realize that the SPAM law is actually the CAN-SPAM law (meaning you can spam as long as you follow a half dozen simple rules).

How can you do it so no one gets upset? Offer free help or valuable information. I did this with real estate agents (for example). I sent them valuable tips they had never been sent before. I told them in the original email that I would continue to send tips unless they unsubscribed. I made it extremely easy for them to unsubscribe. I quickly built a big list which accepted my emails. I eventually made an offer of my product to them in the same email with a tip. My product was real estate buyer leads which we (my son and I) produced on the internet. We offered a great bargain. It is because we continued offer free great information along with the product offer that very few unsubscribed.

Production Method # 5:

Run a simple drawing for something. We have all put our business card in a box for a free lunch. If you have a brick and mortar business, you can do this to get attention for a new product in your inventory. Make the drawing for that product. Put the drawing date out about 60 days. People will give you their name, email and cell phone number. Follow up and offer them a “special phone offer” discount for the product.

Production Method # 5:

Create a business card rack in your shop. You can buy these racks as well. They are designed to hold about 20 business cards in up to 60 slots. Next, buy some $1 or $2 desktop plastic business card holders. Make a business card coupon. Visit local businesses around your business. Introduce yourself and say, “I would like to ask a favor – would you put my cards on your counter?” Show them your 40 cards in the little individual rack. Ask for their cards – “I’ll display your cards in my shop.” This works like a charm!

Production Method # 6:

The famous review service (YELP) is a powerful lead generator. Most people do not realize that they must register their business with YELP. Google+ is powerful as well. Get registered at both, now! Start writing YELP reviews on every business service you use. Write honest reviews. Your reviews will be posted by YELP only after you have written multiple reviews.

Production Method # 7:

Online lead production. How do you get leads online? There are several ways – it is a big subject. Google has (recently and once again) made changes… and now, You Tube clips seem to have more power than ever. If you don’t know how to make and upload You Tube clips, consider investing the time. Another time tested method is to create simple but powerful capture website pages. These pages typically make a true and powerful offer of something of real value, for free.

What ever you do, never stop generating leads. Build sustainable systems that are easy to maintain. You will be a big success.

What should you do next?

How To Use Swingers Chat Rooms For Swinging Vacations

I always advise couples who are new to the swinger lifestyle to go on “swinging vacations.” Why? Well, it makes the experience seem more like fun than a profound new aspect of your life. Also, if you don’t like it, you can easily walk away and leave behind the people and the places where you did it.

What I will do is show you how to quickly and easily use swingers chat rooms to arrange these vacations.

Why Chat Rooms, Davina?

I LOVE online chatting. It is the quickest and purest way to connect with people. Before I ever arrange a swinger event I spend hours chatting to the same people. You really get a feel for them. It is also a LOT harder for people to lie or hold things back when they chat. So, the second they say something that rubs you the wrong way, you can drop them and move on to the next person.

The method

Swingers chat rooms are usually the most highly populated. To use them for swinger vacations you need to make it clear that you want to meet someone away from your home area. You can either find someone to accommodate or meet them in a hotel or motel. The method of doing this is being very OPEN.

Enter the room and tell them that you want to swing away from home. Would anyone be interested in chatting with a view to staying at their home over night or meeting in one of their local hotels?

A lot of swingers prefer to swing miles from their front door. So, use this method, and you are left with the RIGHT type of swingers for you.

Now all you have to do is put in the effort. Chat to them. Do it for hours, for days if you have to. Decide if you are all sexually compatible. Have “virtual experiences” with them. Test them out.

Eventually, you are ready to move on, pick up the phone, and make arrangements to meet.

So where are they, Davina?

I’m amazed at how many of these rooms have closed down in the last year or two. It used to be that you could type in a Google search and up would pop thousands of them.

My two favorite places now are Facebook and dating communities (all of which have chat).

Chatting Rooms

Chatting Rooms, more commonly known as chat rooms, are virtual places where people meet online to talk to each other with text, audio and video. Chat rooms have been very popular since the early days of the internet and their popularity has not faded over time.

People of all walks of life enjoy using chatting rooms to talk, joke, share their experiences, exchange ideas, thoughts or simply get to know each other. Chat rooms are like interactive message boards where you post a message and get responses right away. Additionally, chatting rooms typically come with private messaging features which allow chatters to take a public conversation with one individual into a private area.

The invention of webcams certainly had a great impact on chatting habits. While in the early days chat meant exchanging text messages, now chatting is a multimedia experience where chatters exchange not only text but also audio and video. You can use a microphone to have a voice conversation with other chatters and you can use a webcam to have a video chat as well. In fact some people don’t even bother typing they simply talk and broadcast themselves with their webcams; they have video conferences instead of simple text-chatting sessions.

Some of the most popular chatting rooms are offered by major Internet companies such as Yahoo and America Online. Yahoo Chat used to be the most popular chatting place of a large number of internet chatters. Unfortunately because of its success it was also a preferred target of spammers and bot creators.- Bots are computer programs that are used to spam chat rooms, they usually use female screen names to entice male users to click on links to adult sites. -Yahoo chat rooms were also used by pedophiles, like many free chat rooms available on the web. Nowadays, many restrictions have been added to Yahoo chat to prevent abuses by spammers and sex predators. AIM chat rooms are also available and are still quite a bit popular especially among people living in America. Google also offers chat rooms, in a 3D environment, with Lively. The Google Lively rooms can be added to other sites and people visiting those sites can enter the rooms and chat. Social networking sites also allow their users to join chat rooms. Myspace has chat rooms available to users who are logged in where they can chat with other Myspace users online and present in the rooms. Some ‘older’ sites such as ICQ also have chat rooms though they are not as popular as they used to be when there were fewer other chatting rooms to compete with.

Of course major internet companies are not the only ones to offer free chat rooms, in fact you’ll find chatting rooms available on many less known sites. The difference with major chat rooms and non-major chat rooms is of course the number of users you’ll find. Typically Yahoo chat rooms and AIM chat rooms will always have many users present and chatting. Google Lively is a more recent site therefore it has yet to gain the momentum chat giants such as Yahoo has.

Some chat rooms like the Yahoo chat rooms require that the user not only join Yahoo but also install a piece of software on his/her computer. Other chat rooms such as AIM chat rooms do require user registration but are completely web-based and don’t require any software download. There are also chat rooms that don’t require any form of registration at all, the user simply chooses a nickname and enters the chat room.

While many chat rooms are available for free and accessible to anybody who meet the required criteria to enter the rooms- like age restriction or site membership – others are only accessible when the user pays a fee. Indeed there are paid chat rooms as well. Usually paid chat rooms are moderated chat rooms which are dedicated to a restricted group of individuals. Very often you will find paid chat rooms on dating sites. Some paid chat rooms are offered as part of a membership package for a paid site. Sometimes those paid chat rooms will also allow limited access to non-paying members.

Nowadays anybody can create his/her own free chat rooms simply by adding a few lines of codes on his webpage. Many people add chat rooms on their profiles on social networking sites or on their blogs. Those chat rooms allow anybody who visits a web page to chat with the owner of the page if he/she’s online or with anybody else visiting the page at that time.

Internet chatting rooms still have many glorious years ahead of them while they will certainly evolve with technology and web surfing habits they will still remain popular as internet users are continuously looking for quality chat rooms to join.
