Located in Franklin County, North Carolina, the Person-McGhee House is very visible from US route 1, about 1 miles south of the Tar River which is the boundary between Franklin and Vance Counties. It probably dates from the 1890s. The owner was Lemuel McGhee, a prosperous Franklinton merchant. The woodwork is superb and the asymmetry of the gables in both form and decoration is an intriguing feature of this structure. The property is described in A Guide to Historic Architecture of Piedmont North Carolina by Catherine W. Bishir and Michael T. Southern. They speculate that this might be a design of George F. Barber, mail-order architect from Knoxville, Tennessee. For another view see www.flickr.com/photos/universalpops/8258618602/
