Victorian Elegance
Built in 1869, the General Dodge house in Council Bluffs, Iowa, was the home of Grenville M. Dodge (1831-1916), a Union general during the American Civil War, and an engineer who was instrumental in the development of the railroads across the American West.
The interior of the three-story brick home features elaborate black walnut woodwork, and original fixtures. The house, a National Historic Landmark, is decorated with items from the Dodge family, and is open daily as a museum.
The home was a very interesting place to visit, although the docents (dressed in period garb and shown here), seemed rather stiff and were not very communicative. 😉
