Ever since my high school days in wood shop class I’ve dreamed of owning just one top-of-the-line power tool. Those we had in school were old but totally awesome, made in the days when woodworking machines were made to last. A few months ago I decided that the one great machine I’d get was a new lathe. I looked at them all, OneWay, Robust, Vicmarc, Stubby, Nova, you name it and finally decided that, for the money, the Powermatic 3520B was the one to get. I found a place online (Toolorbit) that had a Father’s Day sale so I got the bed extension essentially for free. The motor takes 220V power and the line hasn’t been run yet so I’ve not been able to use it yet (sob) but I’ll be in business soon.
I don’t think I’ve ever worked as hard in my life as I did getting this baby in the basement and then assembled. Luckily, I have a helpful neighbor who stopped by after work to help me get it into the house. Total weight with the bed extension is 711 pounds and I wasn’t even able to set it upright once I attached the legs. But, with a come-along hanging from one of the joists and determination I got it standing up and got the bed-way pieces back in place.
