We all use furniture at home. Furniture has become a very important part of our house. We cannot imagine a guest room without a sofa or bedroom without a bed. That is why furniture is an important part of the house. Similarly, it is also very important to take proper care of the furniture. Sometimes when we do not use our furniture properly, we end up damaging it.
Furniture damages are very common and it will cost you time and money to hire a carpenter to repair the furniture. Won’t it be good, if you can repair these minor furniture damages at home by yourself? One thing you need to know is that furniture making is an art and you cannot repair or make furniture without knowledge. How to Repair Furniture Joints: Most of the furniture damages are at joints. A furniture item has different parts joined with each other. Joints are sensitive and are easily detachable if used roughly. You must repair the joint as soon as possible to avoid further damages. If there are screws at the joint, make sure they are tight. Use glue or other furniture adhesive to repair the damage. Keep the joint compressed until glue properly fits into damage. Start using the furniture and check after few days if the joint is working properly. If not, you need to use another method to repair it.
Alternatively, you can use glue blocks or steel plates to repair furniture joints. You can make a glue block from wood and can use it to give extra support to furniture joints. Steel plates or angle braces do the same task, but they might sometime look odd as they do not match with wooden furniture. You can find glue blocks in any local hardware store or can make one at home. Installation of a glue block to furniture joint is simple. First, spread the glue or any other adhesive to the joint and then, attach the block to the joint. Now, you can either drill nails to attach the block permanently with the joint or use a strong adhesive.
Another possible option to repair a furniture joint is the direct use of screws and glue, rebuilding joints, etc. If you are going to rebuild the joint, you first need to disassemble joint parts and then assemble them again. It is not an easy task and need good woodworking knowledge.
