here you see the wool going into the orifice. We sanded and smoothed the orifice very very well before spinning on it. (Same with the exit hole). The knob just gives you a place to wrap your wool when you walk away from the wheel.
The wingnut below holds the front plate onto the mother-of-all, and you can see that we’ve wrapped the end of the tension string around it. The tension string is just tied to the mother-of-all. When I want to adjust it, I loosen and retie it (it’s got a slip knot). Not elegant, but it does the job.
