Sitting target
Sitting waiting
Anticipating
Nothing
Nothing
Life
Is full of surprises
It advertises
Nothing
Nothing
What am I trying to do
What am I trying to say
I’m not trying to tell you anything
You didn’t know
When you woke up today
Sitting target
Sitting waiting
God is saying
Nothing
Nothing
Always
Knows the prospects
Learn to expect
Nothing
Nothing
What am I trying to do
What am I trying to say
I’m not trying to tell you anything
You didn’t know
When you woke up today
Nothing… oh, no, nothing.

Heaven helps those who help themselves… and yet stealing is a sin. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission because people won’t act or make themselves available until they absolutely have to; consider how hard it can be to get rights to enter an old building or use some music/art — you can’t find the right people to ask until you actually do what you intended, then they come out of the woodwork. I’ve met several people, my own mother included, who know the history of something but claim not to remember until you bug them because they do remember, they just don’t want to actually think about it, as though mental motion was as arduous as digging through shelves and boxes. One of the most sage things I’ve ever read was, "those who expect nothing will not be disappointed"… which is the opposite of "nothing ventured, nothing gained" in end result. And if said there was nothing more for me to add to this list… I’d be lying.
When you use the phrase "there’s nothing upstairs" on a person, you’re saying there’s nothing useful about them… and this is hardly ever true. (Woe be to those about whom it is true.) When you use the phrase "there’s nothing upstairs" on a building, it usually means something very cool is there being overlooked. That would apply to the old television repair shop building with second-story family dwelling on Yakima Avenue at 48th, but as you can tell here someone has gone looking deeply for whatever it is, and wasn’t afraid to move some stuff to find it. Even when stripped down to the studs, visibly there is something up there… doors, windows, bricks, boards, and things that particular person wasn’t seeking. Sooner or later, this empty building with nothing will again be and contain something.
