DIY Ideas Using Baker’s Twine {awesome|amazing|Great|Special}

Baker’s twine is one of the most versatile crafting articles. Initially, it was used by bakers to wrap up freshly baked bread and cakes. Typically a bakers twine was white with red stripes on them. Today these lovely striped twines come in a variety of colors and can be used for a number of things. In today’s article, I will be putting together a whole collection of ideas that I came across on the internet.

Trussing meat:

Initially the twine was used to truss meat. These strings were made with safe edible dyes back then. Trussing the meat properly helps retain the form and stop the juices from running. Hence, most chefs have a spool of twine in their drawer. The easy way is to begin with a noose knot and re-loop along the length.

Tie baked goodies:

Freshly baked cakes and breads are neatly packed using brown paper or butter paper and then they are secured with colorful bakers twine. Some bakeries have signature colors, knots and packages that beautifully incorporate bakers’ string.

Seal favor bags or bottled goodies:

Use a length of baker’s twine and pieces of stiff fabric such as organdy or organza to tie up party favors. Spread squares of the fabric on a table, place the favors in the middle and scrunch the ends of the fabric over the goodies. Secure with a knot using this colored twine. You can also add printable tags to go with each little package. Bottled goodies can be tagged and wrapped by securing paper or fabric over the mouth of the bottle and then tying it down with kitchen twine.

DIY ideas for tags and cards:

Wrap colored twine around a card and place it behind a diecut to get beautiful patterned designs. Write on paper or any surface using glue and place the twine on it to get letters. To get bigger letters make paper cut-outs of the various alphabets and wrap them with kitchen string. Draw different shapes on paper and spread glue on it, then carefully arrange this colored twine to get beautiful and colorful pictures.

Make your own bracelet:

There are several tutorials on the internet on the different ways in which you can braid/knot or crochet using baker’s twine. You can not only make little wristbands or bracelets, but also arrange these braided strings in different patterns for cards or gift tags.

Tiny pom-poms:

Make tiny twine pom-poms to use as embellishments while wrapping gifts. Wrap lengths of twine on a fork to form an “8” with two prongs on either side. Carefully remove the fork without disturbing the pattern and tie a string on the middle. Now trim the edges to get little pom-poms that can be used to top gift wraps.

Bakers’ twine tassels:

Make bakers twine tassels by looping lengths of twine on your fingers and slowly easing them out of your fingers. Trim one end and knot the other to get tassels. They can be used to decorate key chains, make bookmarks etc.

Gas patio heaters are a great way to extend the usable time on your patio for extra days or even weeks each year. If you and your guests are comfortable sitting outdoors to eat food from the grill, it’s a totally different feel that more formal indoor dining. Because a gas heater has no residue from burning materials, you never have to empty ashes or clean a chimney. Sparks from burning embers are never a problem with gas heaters.

Gas units produces heat very quickly. You don’t need lighter fluid or kindling or paper to get a fire started. There is no waiting for the flames to catch larger pieces of wood. With the gas unit, a pilot light is all that is needed to have the area warmed up in no time.

You never need to worry about finding and storing wood to use for fuel in you have a natural gas heater for your patio. Wood storage takes room, is dirty to handle and can leave slivers in your hands. If you have been using propane, you know how heavy the tanks can be to carry down to the dealer for refilling. You also know that it’s inconvenient to run out of propane in the middle of a conversation and have to go switch out propane tanks.

There is one disadvantage to using a gas heater on your patio rather than wood or propane. Gas heaters are less portable than propane. This can be fairly easily overcome by having more than one gas connection on your patio. When needed, you can simply move the heater to a different connection and be ready to go again.

A gas patio heater adds an attractive element to your patio furnishings. The units are discrete and provide several weeks of additional comfort to your outdoor living space each year. They are small enough to be used on decks and porches as well.

Grilled Fruit Recipes That Will Make You Feel Like It’s Summer All Year Long

When planning out a menu for a party, it’s always ideal to add some color and nutrition to your meals. Fresh fruits and vegetables complement meats or pastas wonderfully and all your guests, including children will definitely love them.

Try these delicious grilled fruit recipes – it will make you feel like it’s summer no matter what time of the year it is!

Figs with Honey Cheese

What you need:

  • 12 ripe black figs, halved lengthwise
  • 1 lemon, zested
  • 3-inch fresh rosemary, plus extra sprigs for garnishing
  • 1/2 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon dark honey
  • 1 tablespoon rum

To make the honey cheese mixture, mix together the mascarpone cheese, 1 tablespoon honey, lemon zest and rum in a blender or food processor. Pulse until the mixture is frothy. Transfer to a bowl, cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Bring the 1/4 cup honey and rosemary to a simmer in a pan over medium heat then lower the heat. Simmer for 2 minutes more. Using a fork, dip the cut side of each fig half into the hot honey. Cook on a pre-heated grill over medium high heat (indirect heat) for 1-2 minutes per side. Transfer to a serving platter and serve with chilled honey cheese topped with fresh rosemary sprigs.

Banana Split Grill Style

What you need:

  • 6 ripe bananas, halved lengthwise (peel on)
  • 6 maraschino cherries
  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Hot Fudge Sauce
  • Rum Caramel Sauce
  • 2 cups lightly sweetened whipped cream
  • 1/2 cup Roasted lightly salted peanuts, chopped
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons honey

Arrange the banana halves, cut side up, on a large plate. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with brown sugar. Cook the bananas on a pre-heated grill, covered, over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes or until they are beginning to caramelize around the edges. Remove from heat and allow to cool for a couple of minutes. To serve the banana split, very carefully remove the soft bananas from their skin. Place 2 grilled bananas on a serving bowl. Top each serving with 2 to 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, drizzle with hot fudge sauce and rum caramel sauce, followed by sweetened whipped cream. Finish the look with the roasted salted peanuts and 2 maraschino cherries. Serve immediately.
